Doom's Dusk

when the cat is away the mice will play, when the cops are, the robbers will. when the day begins to turn to night, so some spirits say, the scarecrows in maize fields chase through the maze seeking the soul of the unfortunate one who dares traverse their plot. the scarecrow watches out not only for thieving crows but also for healthy souls who might, when claimed by them, give "life" as we know it to them, so that they may roam during the day as well.
